Joe Wilson is probably best known for playing with longtime Michigan favorites, “Steppin' In It”. With “Steppin' In It”, Joe has played many of the nation's top concerts and festivals, including the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Wheatland, Blissfest, Old Settlers Festival, The Woody Guthrie Festival, Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour, and Live at Mountain Stage.

Joe has been a full-time member of “Steppin' In It” since 2000. Over the years he’s been lucky enough to play gigs with Wayne Hancock, Bill Kirchen, Billy Strings, and many others.
In 2016, Joe started working on the "Dobro School", a collection of dobro instructional videos. Joe’s instructional website dobrojoe.com has earned him a place among the top online dobro instructors.
Although Joe uses TAB in his instruction, he likes to keep it to a minimum. He believes strongly in the power of improvisation and encourages students to play by ear. He teaches tone and taste over speed and thinks you really can sound great!
More than anything, Joe loves to help his students build confidence while playing with other people.
Joe performs with several groups around the state of Michigan and is at home playing in many different styles. His main projects are a jazz quintet (Big Fun), an americana group (Steppin’ In It), and a classical crossover trio (The Mad Angler Trio). Joe also plays with singer-songwriter Elizabeth Landry, his western swing duo (The True Falsettos), and another swing group (The Hot Biscuits). He can even be found occasionally blasting out a trombone solo!
These days, Joe stays close to his home in Lake Leelanau, MI teaching private lessons both in person and online.
